What makes TKH Airport Solutions unique to me is the opportunity to contribute to solutions for the special problems we face in the aviation industry.
After finishing my Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering in Utrecht, I moved to Enschede to pursue a Master’s degree. When I finished my studies, I got a job at a local company, where I worked as a Scientific Software Engineer, which I felt was a bit too much research and too little engineering. That is why I moved to a different employer, where I stayed for almost 10 years. In 2016 it was time for a change and I ended up at TKH Airport Solutions (back then still known as USE System Engineering), where I work as a Software Engineer. I will be with the company for 10 years in July 2026.
My role in the company has evolved quite a lot since my start 10 years ago. At first, I was working on, and responsible for, a limited number of software modules. However, over time my tasks and the software components I work on have diversified a lot, and as a result I feel that I have grown greatly in my experience and my abilities since working on so many things (and in different programming languages). Another aspect of my work that I enjoy very much is doing reviews for my colleagues. This has allowed me to learn from the work that my colleagues do, but also to contribute to the quality of our software.
What I like about my job is that I am involved in quite a broad range of our software: from Basestation and Master software to production software, and even test automation software. Therefore, no day is the same, and I have the freedom to plan my own work as long as timelines are met. The aviation industry is constantly evolving, and that provides a constant need for new features in our software and tooling. One month you are working on creating tooling for commissioning of Basestations and AGL lamps, and another month I am developing a new feature in our Basestation software.
Additionally, the pleasant cooperation with my colleagues and the satisfaction I feel when an epic or user story is done with a good result are what keep me at TKH Airport Solutions.
What makes TKH Airport Solutions unique to me is the diversity of the work and the opportunity to contribute to solutions for the special problems we face in the aviation industry. The room for constant growth and possibilities to learn something new, for instance on test automation, are important to me and have made the job engaging and challenging even after many years in the field.
