Second CEDD® AGL installation on Schiphol Airport

We are proud to announce the completion of the second CEDD® AGL installation on Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Helispot at Schiphol Airport was one of the CEDD® pilot projects that were executed in 2016.

Following the successful performance over the past 4 years, Schiphol Airport has decided to continue with CEDD® AGL technology for the renewed Helispot.

CEDD® AGL has the benefit of consuming 40% lower energy compared to a traditional LED AGL system, reduced civil and maintenance costs as well as fast and reliable communication with the AGL Control and Monitoring System. Therefore CEDD® AGL is a great fit with Schiphol’s ambition to operate the world’s most sustainable, high-quality airports. In addition to Schiphol Airport, the sister airport at Lelystad also utilises the CEDD® AGL technology.

New airfield lights for London Stansted

London Stansted Airport is currently upgrading 3,600 airfield lights with new energy efficient, high performance Taxiway Centreline, Stop Bar and Approach lights supplied by TKH Airport Solutions. These lights were supplied within 12 weeks of the purchase order being received.

The lights follow the supply of Taxiway Centreline, Touch Down Zone (TDZ) and Threshold Lights that were installed in May 2019. The lights will reduce power consumption by around 70%, helping drive down operating costs and cutting CO2 emissions.

Due to the low level of air traffic, the airport has a unique opportunity to perform the replacement programme during daytime hours, which would have previously been unthinkable.

This programme will convert the airport into a complete LED airfield and follows the retrofitting of the airport’s Taxiway Guidance Signs to LED. The retrofit project was performed by the airport’s airfield electricians during normal operational times without the requirement for any major airfield closures or project costs including civil infrastructure. The retrofitted signs were subsequently photometrically tested to demonstrate ICAO / EASA compliance.

Article in Jane’s Airport 360: Support grows for CEDD® in airfield lighting

TKH Airport Solutions has supplied its Contactless Energy & Data Distribution (CEDD®) airfield lighting and low-voltage infrastructure to Lelystad Airport in the Netherlands to replace its conventional airfield ground lighting system.

Unlike traditional solutions, CEDD® does not require constant current regulators (CCRs), transformers, primary, and secondary cables to regulate the power supply. It relies on a dedicated cable that transmits energy to individual lights using induction technology, which then sends data to the central base station.

New LED PAPI with many benefits

Meet our new Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) in LED technology. Since we introduced it at the Inter Airport in Munich in October 2017, several of the ICAO certified LED PAPI lights have already been installed.

The new LED PAPI offers some very interesting features for quick installation and inspection:

  • Built-in electronic tilt sensor
  • External tilt angle display
  • Two light systems with separate power lines
  • Fail open functionality for LED lights and tilt angle
  • Optional heating avoids lens misting and icing

It’s a great addition to the TKH Airport solutions portfolio that enables you to install all important airfield lighting elements in robust LED technology.
